Welcome to Peaceful Plates. This is a new blog by Akiko Sasaki and Jesse Stacken. We will be posting photos of some of our meals, perhaps some related thoughts, and possibly a recipe from time to time. Full disclosure: This blog is directly influenced by Food Everyday, Everyday Food, an amazing blog from the Alaskan macrobiotic community known as Ionia. We've found their simple posts to be inspiring on many levels. They give us new dish ideas and inspire us to make our meals as presentable as possible, even if it's only the two of us at the table. In addition to being a platform for sharing our meals with you, we hope this blog will motivate us to pay fine attention to detail in our cooking, menu planning, and plating. And hopefully you readers will enjoying seeing the great variety of delicious healthy food that macrobiotic cooking has to offer.
We have practiced macrobiotics for four years in Brooklyn, NY. It is a means for us to balance our lives in the often hectic New York City, and move in the general direction of health. We've learned a lot on this journey and have continually refined our cooking and lifestyle practices. This August we attended the Strengthening Health Institute Seminar with Denny and Susan Waxman in Philadelphia, and we will be studying extensively there in 2014 as a part of their Comprehensive Certificate Program.
