I just finished reading The Book of Macrobiotics by Michio Kushi with Alex Jack. It's an incredible book. I highly recommend reading it yourself, no matter what you eat. After all, macrobiotics is more than a diet; it is a philosophy with practical applications in all areas of life. Nowhere else is the current philosophy of macrobiotics more poetically expressed. The first part of the book explains the spiral of history (and how history repeats itself), where we are in this spiraling timeline and how returning to a more natural way life offers a promising way of overcoming the problems that humanity currently faces. Kushi and Jack also show how yin and yang philosophy permeates all disciplines including science and religion. There is a large chapter on scientific studies from a great variety of sources that confirm the benefits of a balanced plant-based diet. And there is much more. The Book of Macrobiotics offers a comprehensive view of the macrobiotic philosophy as it evolves today.
